The minimum high school admissions requirements for Penn State are outlined below. Applicants should review these requirements prior to applying for admission.

The high school admissions requirements apply to all students interested in pursuing a degree at Penn State. Based on your applicant type, you may also have to meet additional requirements. Please review all requirements prior to applying for admission.

Admissions Requirements for First-Year Applicants Interested in Special Programs

Music and Theatre

An audition/interview is required for admission consideration and placement for any program in music or theatre. Scheduling is the student’s responsibility and should be done as soon as possible but no later than February 1. In the meantime, students should file an application for Penn State with Undergraduate Admissions as soon as possible.

Accelerated Premedical-Medical Program

Penn State and the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia jointly offer the Accelerated Premedical-Medical degree program .

To be considered for this rigorous academic program, you must minimally:

  • Be in the highest tenth of your high school class
  • Earn a combined score of 1470 or higher on the new SAT (debuted March 2016 – Evidence Based Reading and Writing and Math sections), 1420 or higher on the old SAT (prior to March 2016 – Critical Reading and Math sections), or a composite score of 32 or higher on the ACT from a single test date no later than October of your senior year
  • Submit a COMPLETE application (standard Penn State application and the additional materials required for admission to the program) by November 30 of your senior year

Students who do not meet the above criteria will not be considered for the program.

Students seeking admission to this program must apply online using the Penn State application. Upon completion of the application, they will also have to complete all necessary questions and provide the additional application material requested.

Again, applications for this program must be received with complete credentials by Undergraduate Admissions no later than November 30 of a student s senior year. Applications that are received or incomplete after this date cannot be considered for this program.

Complete credentials to support the application include the following:

  • Official secondary school record showing grades received for all courses completed starting with ninth grade
  • Class rank at the end of your junior year (exact rank is preferable)
  • Schedule of senior courses
  • Official SAT or ACT test scores from a single test date no later than October of your senior year
  • One-page r sum listing your most meaningful accomplishments and extracurricular activities during your high school years
  • One letter of evaluation from your guidance counselor or high school teacher
  • Required application fee

The Accelerated Premedical-Medical program is a seven-year program that begins in the fall semester at University Park. The program is open to traditional students in their senior year who are applying for first-year admission–students who have already graduated from high school are not eligible. Admission decisions for this accelerated program are made by the joint admissions committee of Penn State and Jefferson Medical College.

Science BS/MBA

This accelerated program provides an opportunity for outstanding and highly motivated students to complete both a B.S. in Science and an M.B.A. in a total of five years. Students in the Science BS/MBA Program. a collaboration of the Eberly College of Science and the Smeal College of Business, earn summer credits and income through cooperative education and internship experiences with affiliated companies.

Minimum admission requirements include:

  • SAT score of at least 1950
  • Top 10 percent standing in your high school class
  • Ability to communicate effectively, an advanced level of maturity, and high motivation to pursue a joint science/business educational program
  • Separate application to the Science BS/MBA program, in addition to the standard Penn State application

A Penn State admission offer should be in hand prior to the Science BS/MBA deadline of December 31. In order to apply for the BS/MBA program, applicants must submit the program application and two confidential recommendations by December 31. Additional Information for Applicants with a GED

If you did not graduate from high school and earned a GED, regardless of your age or the time that has passed since high school, official high school transcripts through the last year you completed AND an official GED transcript are required.

All high school and GED transcripts must be sent directly to Penn State from the high school (educational institution of origin) or GED testing center to be considered official. Students can obtain their official GED through the Department of Education in the state from which the GED was received.

Air Conditioner Maintenance Checklist

Like so many mechanical systems in our homes, air conditioners always get used when we need them but are otherwise roundly ignored. until there’s a problem. That’s when we call a service professional and start praying that the bill won’t be too high. With air conditioners, neglecting routine maintenance leads to decreased efficiency (in other words, higher utility bills) and, often, premature failure of expensive parts.

For most homes, the rule of thumb is to have your central A/C system checked once a year by a qualified technician. The checklist below covers the basic items a routine air conditioner maintenance call should include. In addition to the annual service, it’simportant to check on a couple of things each month during the cooling season. This is something you can do yourself in just a few minutes.

Annual Air Conditioner Maintenance Checklist:

1. Clean the outdoor condenser coils and indoor evaporator units.

The coil is made up of the refrigerant lines and surrounding radiator-like fins that line the cabinet of your outdoor A/C unit. The evaporator is the interior counterpart to the outdoor unit and has its own coil. Dirt and debris on the coils reduce efficiency and stress the system’s mechanical parts.

2. Check the refrigerant level.

An improper amount of refrigerant (Freon, in most systems) makes a compressor work too hard, reducing the efficiency and longevity of the system.

3. Inspect the drain pans and condensate drains.

Drains must be unobstructed and clean to ensure excess moisture is not trapped in the units or inside the house.

4. Check outdoor fan motor and blades and indoor blower assembly.

The fan on the outdoor unit pulls air in through the coil fins. The indoor blower is the fan unit (motor, fan wheel and housing) on your furnace. Older blowers may include a drive belt that should be inspected and adjusted or replaced as needed.

5. Check compressor and refrigerant tubing.

6. Lubricate moving parts (as applicable).

Older A/C units often have ports on fan motors, compressors and other parts for adding lubrication periodically. Newer models typically have sealed parts that don’t need to be lubed.

7. Inspect all electrical controls, wiring and connections.

All electrical components and hookups should be checked for soundness, wear and damage.

8. Inspect and clean or replace air filters.

9. Run a general system test.

Your technician should turn on the A/C system to check operating functions such as the starting cycle and shut-off control, check for unusual noises or odors, and measure indoor/outdoor temperatures and system pressures as needed.

10. Check ductwork for leaks and other problems.

A duct inspection is not needed every year and may not be included with a standard system checkup, but air leakage in ductwork is one of the main causes of inefficiency in forced-air A/C and heating systems. It’s a good idea to have your ductwork assessed and sealed and/or insulated in problems areas, as needed.

Monthly Maintenance During the Cooling Season

Now for a couple of things that you can do to help keep your A/C in good shape while you’re using it most: First, check the furnace filter each month, and replace it as soon as necessary. And second, check the outdoor condenser unit and remove all leaves, grass clippings and other debris from the sides and top of the cabinet. Cut back shrubs and other vegetation as needed to maintain a minimum of 2 feet of clearance on all sides of the unit. This ensures adequate airflow to the condenser coil.

Tips for Scheduling Service

The best time to call a service pro for an annual air conditioner maintenance checkup is in early spring (in most areas), or at least well before the cooling season really kicks in. If you wait until summer, the pros are booked to their fan blades with emergency repairsand installation jobs. Also be aware that some utility companies offer low-cost efficiency checkups, as well as service package plans that cover maintenance and repairs for a set monthly fee.

    I would love to give a great review of this small dealership. My husband purchased his SUV here and has not any any huge problems which I am thankful for. However, THIS IS NOT A FEMALE FRIENDLY DEALERSHIP! I came to this dealership because they have the lowest dealership prices in town for decent vehicles (all) with minor cosmetic damage. I loved the low pressure sales tactics because I got to browse on my own and find out more info only about the cars I was interested in. But that s where it ends.

    I noticed that when I came alone or if the sales reps, including Mike and the General Sales Manager, didn t see my husband, I was treated curtly, low tolerance, come back with your husband/when you have more time . After multiple instances of this, I finally concluded that I couldn t go back unless I had my husband with me if I wanted to get my new car. Obviously, that was quite a hindrance when I wanted to go car shopping while he was working. Besides, what difference does it make if my husband is present to purchase MY CAR?

    My husband was in the market for a new car several months ago because he crashed his so he had a pressing need and they sold him a car fir first time he visited. I, however, have a functioning car that I would like to upgrade and will upgrade when I find a car that I enjoy driving. As such, I ve been in the market for several months to find just the right car. If that s you, DON T GO HERE! They don t like that. You should know exactly what car you want, but be flexible to move to similar cars if they don t have it (like most used dealerships), have a price-point in mind, but be able to go higher when necessary to accommodate them. They don t want you test driving too many cars and will actually cut you off after a little under a dozen! (mind you the less-than-dozen were driven over the course of my 3 months of weekly/every other week visits.) I m too much of an insurance risk when I m obviously not going anywhere in buying a car.

    I m used dealerships being pushy, conniving, lying and sleazy and I will say that New Deal is none of these. I will say that they are a different kind of horrible. They are impatient, sexist, dramatic like little schoolgirls talking about you behind your back, demeaning and downright mean. The sad thing is that I tried to give them my business by revisiting over time when they didn t have what I wanted that day. They were intolerant and I will never set foot on this lot again. As much as I had wanted a car, I refuse to give a company like this my money and I hope you don t either.

    BART began service over 40 years ago. The original BART cars are near the end of their useful lives and need to be replaced.

    Bombardier Transit Corporation will build BART s Fleet of the Future. A complex supply chain and assembly process, followed by rigorous testing, will result in the first new train cars going into service Fall 2016.

    Over 35,000 customers participated in outreach events during the design phase. Based on their input, the new cars will be:

    • Quieter: micro-plug doors will help seal out noise
    • Cooler: cooling systems will distribute air directly to the ceilings, making it more comfortable for standees on hot days
    • Comfortable: padded seats will be covered with wipeable fabric for ease of cleaning
    • Easy to use: routes will be color coded like the BART system map, and next stop information will be readily available via automated announcements and digital screens.

    BART s goal is to order 1,081 new train cars, increasing the number of seats in the fleet by 49%.

    The use of alcohol, whether within Muslim societies or not, cannot continue to be swept under the carpet if solutions are to be found. By Jo Arrem .

    Arak, daru, sharaab, alcohol. The names may vary by language, but the essence is the same. Depending on which side of fence you sit, these words may conjure up the romance of a Hafiz poem or the sternness of a lecture at the mosque condemning their evils.

    Some in Muslim societies view drinking alcohol as a terrible sin and a symbol of evil. Others feel it is merely a fun indulgence. Some indulge in secret, others openly. Still others worry incessantly that they might inadvertently sin while using alcohol-based handrub or mouthwash. This latter category of Muslims dominates the discourse around alcohol in Muslim circles. The ones who do drink usually avoid these discussions, privately hoping to be kept out of this controversial, emotionally charged debate. The intensity of emotion surrounding this issue makes it one of the most polarising in Muslim communities. So polarising, in fact, that most are loath even to bring it up.

    Government policies on alcohol consumption by Muslims are equally diverse, with laws of varying strictness. In some countries, one hears of people being sentenced to jail or lashes for drinking. In others, alcohol is freely available and even government officials are unabashed about being seen holding a drink.

    Either way, the fact is that many Muslims do drink. And anecdotal evidence suggests that the numbers are increasing. In most secular countries, alcohol is widely available. So Muslims, whether visiting, studying or residing there, will have easy access to it at school, friends houses, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. In most Islamic countries, alcohol is ostensibly banned. But insiders know how to get it, and they do. From blatantly opened bottles in swish Dubai nightclubs to glasses, wrapped in content-concealing serviettes, held in Lahore, the contents being imbibed and enjoyed are essentially the same.

    Yet the restrictions on alcohol remain one of the more prominent aspects of the Muslim identity. So, how do Muslims who drink reconcile their drinking with their faith?

    But in societies where the taboo of admitting to alcohol use is high, the opportunities for education, discussion and guidance around drinking are low

    Some are comfortable with their choice, as 20-year-old Abdul from Egypt argues. ‘I don’t believe that by drinking in moderation I am harming anyone. I think the essence of Islam or any other religion is about not doing things that harm you or others around you. Moderate drinking falls into that category.’

    In Jakarta, 38-year-old Mely finds solace in the fact that society largely accepts it. ‘Society approves of me drinking, so I don t feel guilty, even though it is a sin according to the Qur’an. I know hijab-wearing women who go as far as removing their headscarves and wearing wigs to go clubbing and drinking. They still want to be part of the in-crowd.’

    Despite the acceptance of their choices, some retain the sentiment that drinking alcohol is a sin or shameful. ‘I m fine with it, even though I know my society does not approve,’ confides Zara, a 26-year-old Muslim studying in Australia. ‘I would do it openly, except in small circles where this may cause shame to my parents.’

    Rahman, 30, in Malaysia says simply, ‘I feel that it is a sin that I have chosen to commit.’

    The larger question for Muslim communities regarding alcohol use is whether the issue can be discussed without further widening the divide between those who drink and those who don’t. All societies – Muslim or not – have to grapple with the issue of alcohol use. Aside from religious teachings, societies must educate drinkers to manage alcohol use responsibly. Alcohol is a substance that, if not properly managed, can cause serious harm — directly, by health problems, and indirectly, such as by drink-driving collisions. But in societies where the taboo of admitting to alcohol use is high, the opportunities for education, discussion and guidance around drinking are low. This may make Muslims who drink – particularly the young – more vulnerable to the negative effects of alcohol use compared with others who are able to have a frank discussion about drinking with their parents or community leaders.

    The challenge for those who worry about this is creating safe spaces, where young Muslims in particular can engage their parents, religious leaders and other elders in this discussion without fear of criticism or marginalisation. This engagement needs to be done without resorting to fatwas or other forms of condemnation.

    In many Muslim societies, parents and teachers believe that simply talking about alcohol would be seen as permitting its use. Thus the subject is never brought up except in highly dismissive or judgmental ways. Often though, this only serves to further drive the issue underground. In societies where alcohol use is common, public education campaigns and the involvement of parents, schools and even religious institutions have played a positive role in empowering young people to manage their alcohol intake responsibly. Surely it is better that teenagers feel safe in being able to admit to their parents that they did not drive the car home because they were drinking, rather than being so afraid of getting into trouble that they risk their lives by driving home anyway.

    This is, of course, easier said than done. A negative perception about the character of people who drink alcohol is hard-wired into the psyche of mainstream Muslims. This is often coupled with strong cultural conceptions of family honour that are protected against shameful behaviour at almost any cost. Nevertheless, it is imperative that leaders of Muslim communities address the realities of these issues and allow them to be discussed, however difficult and uncomfortable they may be.

    Residential vs. Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment

    Residential vs. Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment Programs

    F or patients needing drug and alcohol treatment. outpatient and residential treatment programs can provide an essential level of care to achieve long-term recovery. But how do you know whether you or a loved one would best benefit from a residential or outpatient program? Both types of treatment have distinctions which make them more or less appropriate for a patient’s needs, depending on the patient’s level and length of addiction.

    Despite their differences, residential and outpatient treatment programs have the same basic treatment philosophy.

    Both treatment programs utilize cognitive behavioral therapy and 12-step counseling within group and individual sessions. Both require abstinence, regularly attendance in AA or NA meetings, and urge participation in aftercare programs.

    It is important to first note that this is a general overview of the major differences between residential and outpatient treatment programs. In order to truly understand which type of program is most appropriate for you, a friend, or a family member, an in-person diagnostic assessment with a qualified professional is needed .

    Residential Treatment Programs

    R esidential treatment programs, like The Ridge, are 28-day minimum programs in which patients voluntarily enter a safe, secure facility in which intensive drug and alcohol treatment programs are the cornerstone of the patient’s daily activities. Often, patients who have unsuccessfully attempted outpatient treatment programs achieve success in a residential program. Patients who require detoxification services due to concerns about withdrawal also benefit from residential programs, as detox services are often included as a part of residential treatment programs. After detox (if necessary), patients undergo an intensive, daily drug or alcohol treatment regimen to learn about the disease of addiction in a supportive, immersive environment.

    Residential programs are safe, structured environments in which patients are removed from stressful circumstances that promote or fuel the urge to use. Because negative influences are removed from a patient’s daily experience, participants in residential treatment programs can begin to work on building life skills addiction had interfered with.

    This intensive level of care makes residential treatment programs ideal for people who have unsuccessfully attempted to overcome addiction in outpatient programs or for people who know they need drug or alcohol treatment and want to “do it right” the first time. As previously stated, the level of care necessary for a patient should be determined by an in-person assessment with a qualified medical or counseling professional. While patients who have attempted outpatient programs without success often do require residential care, some patients who have not yet undergone outpatient treatment may not require this high level of care.

    Some patients are wary about voluntarily beginning a residential drug or alcohol treatment program because of the intensity, but residential programs are highly emotionally supportive and focus on helping the whole body and mind through treatment. For this reason, many residential centers encourage family participation, including evening family education programs and weekend programs. In addition to immediate family, patients benefit from having a “therapeutic community” in residential treatment programs – a community of patients who support one another through treatment by encouraging others to stay on task. In addition to the other differentiators of long-term residential care, it is this camaraderie gained through empathy and shared experience that often helps patients overcome addiction while completing drug or alcohol treatment.

    Outpatient Treatment Programs

    O utpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs, like The Ridge’s sister facility Northland. share many similarities with residential treatment programs, but in a differently structured environment. Outpatient programs provide patients with more freedom of movement which allows them to maintain a regular commitment to family, work, and educational responsibilities. Because of the ability to go home after a daily or evening program, patients are able to have a greater level of privacy and anonymity as they often do not need to explain a prolonged residential absence to friends, coworkers, or family members.

    But unlike residential treatment programs, patients are not provided with the safe, secure environment that isolates them from negative influences. Patients return to their own homes and social lives after outpatient drug or alcohol treatment, and must voluntarily abstain from drug or alcohol use, which requires a greater amount of diligence. However, the benefit of this is that outpatient programs (like residential programs) provide a support network for patients in the form of official support groups, individual counseling, and family counseling so that patients are never alone in their recovery. Patients are provided with a strong support network of non-using peers and sponsors. Outpatient drug and alcohol treatment requires a component of group therapy and support groups like NA and AA, which provide a new, positive element of social change in a patient’s life and facilitate long-term recovery.

    Which Type of Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program is for You?

    Y ou and your medical or counseling professional are best equipped to know which type of treatment is ideal for your situation. Be honest with yourself about how independently dedicated you can be in an outpatient program. Do you feel like the temptations to use based on daily stresses, friends and acquaintances, or lack of social support would be an issue in successfully completing outpatient treatment?     Amazon s recently released Cloud Drive service has been making waves, mostly due to the music streaming feature that lets users stream music files they place on the cloud drive to any device they own. As you might expect, the major record labels have been quick to question the legality of the service.

    That s not the only feature worth noting, however. Cloud Drive offers 5GB of free space by default, and that can be raised to 20GB (for one year) if you purchase an MP3 album from Amazon. The space can be accessed on any PC, but only via a web browser that is, until now.

    Hey! You Got Some Dropbox In My Amazon!

    Amazon s Cloud Drive is at a bit of a disadvantage because Amazon has only released a web interface. That s fine for many tasks, but it s not the sort of seamless integration that can be found with Dropbox and other solutions. But there is a way to make Cloud Drive act very much like Dropbox, and it s called Gladinet Cloud Desktop .

    Simple Setup

    Gladinet Cloud Desktop is a cloud storage access platform that has been available since 2009. The utility makes it possible to access cloud storage directly from your computer by mounting the cloud storage as a drive. Once mounted, it will show up in My Computer as a Network Location.

    The free edition can be downloaded from Gladinet s site. It offers limited functionality compared to the full version of the software for example, you can t transfer more than 1,000 files in a single action, and you can t access the backup features but the limitations aren t likely to be a concern for most users and won t impact what we re trying to accomplish.

    Setting up Gladinet for use with Cloud Drive is simple. During installation, you will prompted to set up any accounts you may have. The list is alphabetical, so Amazon Cloud Drive will be at the top. Select it, and then enter your Amazon credentials. Installation will complete and Amazon Cloud Drive will be mounted as a Network Location.

    Creating The Cloud Desktop

    Installing Gladinet will give you access to Cloud Drive, but it does not place it on your desktop. To do that, you simply need to open My Computer and then open My Gladinet Drive. Right-click the Amazon Cloud Drive folder and then click Create Shortcut. Place the shortcut on your desktop, and that s it. You now have access to Cloud Drive directly from your desktop.

    Of course, you can move that shortcut around just like any other shortcut. So if you d like to place it in My Documents or another folder, feel free to do so.

    Beyond Cloud Drive

    While Gladinet s extremely quick support of Amazon Cloud Drive is the program s newest feature, it s far from the only one available. Gladinet offers access to a huge variety of cloud storage providers. This includes Google Docs, Picasa, and Windows Live SkyDrive. Dropbox is, I m sorry to report, is not an option.

    You can mount those alongside Cloud Drive by opening the Gladinet Cloud Desktop and then navigating to Manage My Cloud Storage Accounts. Once there, click on the folder icon in the upper left hand corner. You ll be prompted to select a storage provider and enter your password, just as when you set up Cloud Drive.


    Gladinet is a great solution for cloud storage, and so far appears to be the only cloud desktop software offering support for Amazon Cloud Drive. If you know of any other Cloud Drive tricks, however, please leave a comment!

    There are 3 classes of Professional Educator Certification in Alabama – Class B. Class A and Class AA. Each class is connected with differing pay structures (exact pay will depend on the county where you wish to teach – contact your desired county to learn the exact compensation).     Experience Requirements

    For the traditional approach to certification (through an Alabama teaching certification program), you will be completing a practicum that is required for the completion of your teacher education program.     Criminal History Background Check

    All applicants for teaching certification in Alabama will have to complete a Criminal History Background Check through the Alabama Bureau of Investigation (ABI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) .

    The certification/licensure applicant will be fingerprinted and will need to authorize their criminal history information to be submitted for review by the Alabama Department of Education. Fees are associated with the fingerprinting service.

    Locations for third party fingerprinting services will be at your local police department or through additional locations that will be disclosed through your teacher education school’s certification officer.


    The deadline for sending in your application is 60 calendar months from the completion of your teacher education program.

    In addition, if an incomplete application is mailed, you have 12 calendar months from the send date of the letter from the Office of Certification indicating the required materials missing from your application. If all required materials are not submitted within the 12 month period, you will need to reapply and repay the application processing fee.

The utility can instantly wipe out a problem program, allow alternating use of incompatible applications, and make transferring software between computers a breeze. SVS is free for personal use on up to ten computers; Follow the link at the end of this review to download. At the enterprise level, it sells for $29 per node (list) and integrates with the Notification Server and Deployment Solution products from Altiris.

    Once installed on a system, SVS runs continually. If you install a program under it, SVS grabs all changes to the Registry and file system (including added and deleted files) that the installer makes and puts them in what Altiris calls a layer. Thereafter, the virtualization software directs file and Registry calls to the layer or to the base system as appropriate. The SVS-installed app looks perfectly normal, but disappears without a trace when you deactivate the layer. You can turn the app on and off like a light switch.

    The layer that SVS creates during a program’s installation is read-only; an associated read/write layer holds all changes the virtualized program makes when it’s running. To return the program to its freshly installed state if it gets damaged or corrupted, for example you simply do a reset, which wipes out only the read/write layer’s contents. SVS also lets you export a virtualized application to a file and import it on another computer, automatically adjusting the imported package to match the OS, system folders, and settings on the new machine instant installation! Performance doesn’t seem to be affected with SVS or virtualized apps running, although Altiris says it may slow 2 to 3 percent.

    A defective program installed under SVS supervision can’t permanently damage your system you just deactivate and delete the layer. Want to try the Microsoft Office beta without losing access to the current version? Install both, but activate one at a time. My one gripe is that SVS identifies an active layer just by displaying the name in boldface I’d like to see a stronger visual distinction.

    Because all files a virtualized app creates reside in its read/write layer, they become invisible when the layer is deactivated. And resetting the layer will delete all documents its application created bummer! To get around this, you can create a data layer that you associate with folders, file types, or both. While active, the layer captures all new and modified files that match the criteria you’ve set. You can also manually move existing files into a data layer, and you can transfer its files to another computer using the export/import process.

    SVS will virtualize programs on cluttered machines, but for creating and exporting installations, Altiris recommends using a clean system with a minimum of installed software. For testing, I loaded the product on a pristine Windows XP machine and started wildly downloading programs. Most of my test installations went smoothly once I remembered to click Save rather than Run in the download box.

    SVS keeps capturing until the install program and any secondary programs it launches finish. So if a program launches on completing its installation, SVS keeps capturing. That happened with SnagIt. so SVS captured my initial configuration settings in the read-only layer. Nice! If I ever have to reset, I’ll still have my initial settings.

    My installation of Microsoft Office. which I did from discs, seemed to go smoothly as well until I realized SVS had stopped capturing before the Web-based updates started. Undeterred, I tried from scratch. This time I installed Office, but didn’t give it permission to update from the Web. Instead, I chose the SVS Update Existing Layer option, then manually invoked the Web update under its auspices. It worked!

    Next I experimented with importing and exporting installations. I exported Microsoft Office, which had taken nearly half an hour to install on Microsoft Windows XP under SVS, and then imported it under Windows 2000. The suite was up and running in seconds. I also downloaded and imported a prepackaged Firefox installation from the Altiris Web site, and I imported a packaged version of PC Magazine ‘s DiskPie utility, supplied by Executive Editor Ben Gottesman. These and other export/import installations worked flawlessly.

    Going out on a limb, I installed some sample spyware using the SVS global capture mode to test whether I could clean up by rolling back changes. It didn’t entirely work. Altiris representatives confirm that SVS isn’t designed as a security product; for secure and complete rollback to an earlier state, they recommend Altiris Protect. And speaking of security do not virtualize antivirus and other security products. Also, SVS doesn’t run in Safe Mode, so don’t virtualize any tools you might need in that mode.

    Because antivirus scanners function at the driver level, they can see right through SVS and scan inside deactivated layers. They may also report suspicious behavior from SVS itself, since it works by providing false information to the Windows API. F-Secure’s Blacklight scanner
    ( ) didn’t report anything, but the Rootkit Revealer ( ) from SysInternals listed thousands of discrepancies. To scan for actual rootkit activity, I had to deactivate all layers first.

    Anybody can use Altiris Software Virtualization Solution 2.0 to put a safety wrapper around software installations and to package installations for import on other computers. Power users can do quite a bit more by manipulating advanced properties and using the commandline interface. Give SVS a try! Just remember that if you later uninstall it, you’ll have to reinstall any virtualized applications at present there’s no way to merge them into the underlying base system.

    If you’re renting a car, think about what you need before you purchase supplemental insurance or a damage waiver.

    Whether you’re on a trip and need transportation in a different city or your car is in the shop and you need a set of wheels to get to work and back, chances are you’ll need to rent a car. That’s the easy part. But, if you’re like many of us, it becomes more difficult when you’re faced with the decision of whether to purchase the additional insurance or damage waiver often offered by the rental car company.

    To help you decide whether you should opt for the insurance offered by rental car companies, consider the following.

    Do You Already Have Auto Insurance?

    Generally, your personal auto insurance should extend to a rental car. A rental car most likely would be covered by Collision coverage or Liability coverage, depending on the state in which your policy is issued, because you’re temporarily driving it and you don’t own it. Basically, your policy will treat a rental like your primary vehicle while you’re in possession of it.

    If you’re looking for more coverage, you may want to consider purchasing the additional insurance offered by a rental car company.

    Do keep in mind that you may not be able to rent a car at all if you don’t have auto insurance, as several major car rental companies may require you to have it.

    Rental Coverage on Your Policy Does Not Cover Damage to or Caused by Rental Cars

    If you have Rental Reimbursement coverage on your policy, you can only use it to rent a car if your personal vehicle on your policy is in the shop because of an accident. Rental coverage does not cover damage to a rental or damage caused while you’re driving a rental.

    What Does Additional Coverage Actually Cover?

    Make sure you know what’s covered if you purchase additional coverage from a rental company. Common coverages offered by rental car companies include a damage waiver, supplemental liability, personal effects coverage and personal accident insurance. In general, each provides different types of protection, as noted below. Please note that these descriptions are for informational purposes only, and coverages may vary between rental car companies.

    • Damage Waiver If your rental car is damaged or stolen, this coverage will apply. However, you may not be able to use it for accidents caused by speeding, driving on unpaved roads or driving while intoxicated. If you already have Comprehensive and Collision coverage, this coverage may duplicate coverage you already have on your own personal auto policy.
    • Supplemental Liability Provides additional liability protection, generally up to $1 million, if someone makes a claim against you while you’re driving a rental car. For instance, Supplemental Liability would apply if you’re at fault for an accident and the other party files a claim against you for injuries and vehicle damage that exceed your regular policy limits. Supplemental Liability coverage may also provide Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist coverage, depending on the company selling it. If you already have adequate liability coverage on your car and an umbrella policy if you own your home/auto, you may want to forego this coverage.
    • Personal Effects Coverage (PEC) Protects items and property you own if they’re damaged. If you have homeowners or renters insurance, you may already have coverage, though a deductible may apply.
    • Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) Covers your injuries while you’re driving a rental. If you already have health insurance or adequate medical coverage under your auto policy, this coverage may be unnecessary.

    With both PEC and PAI coverage, only you and your passengers are covered if you’re at fault for an accident, PEC and PAI would not apply to any damages or injuries caused to other parties.

    Cost of Additional Insurance

    If you choose to purchase the damage waiver, personal accident and effects coverage, or supplemental liability protection, you could pay twice as much for your rental. Often, these types of coverage can cost up to $25 or more each, in addition to the base price of your rental.

    Are You Covered Elsewhere?

    Sometimes, credit cards offer protection for rental cars. If you’re using a credit card to rent a vehicle, check with your credit card company to see if and what type of coverage is offered. It may be a built-in perk of your card, in which case you may not need to pay extra for the same type of coverage offered by the rental car company.

    Remember: Be sure to ask questions and verify what’s covered before you purchase additional insurance from your rental car company. Only you can decide what’s best for your financial situation and peace of mind.

    There are two basic types of annuity:

    The Immediate Annuity
    You hand over a lump-sum premium to an insurance company and in return you get an immediate flow of regular income payments.

    The Deferred Annuity
    A deferred annuity is a savings vehicle. It has an accumulation phase and a withdrawal phase. It is more tax-efficient than a bank deposit. Many people use a deferred annuity as a tax-efficient way to save for their retirement. The withdrawal phase need not be in the form of regular income to the investor; it could be a lump sum.

    Annuities: As They Were, As They Are

    Annuities are sold by life insurance companies. Traditionally, in return for your lump sum premium the insurance company paid you an income. The income was guaranteed for your lifetime.

    Annuities paid a higher interest rate than banks could. This was because annuities and bank deposits were (and are) completely different. When you buy a lifetime annuity, you effectively sell your money for ever in return for an interest rate and lifetime income. Banks only have your money on loan; they don’t get to keep it at the end of your life, so they cannot offer you as good a return as an annuity can.

    For example, let’s say you have accumulated $200,000 in a bank account and earn interest of 4% a year. If you take an annual income of $15,000 from this account, you will run out of money before 20 years have passed. The advantage of purchasing an annuity with your money is that you will get an income for as long as you live – even if it’s another 40 years.

    Annuities have traditionally been used as a means of providing a lifetime pension. People saved while they worked and bought an annuity to provide an ongoing income in retirement.

    Later in the month, two other fraudsters were finally jailed in what has been labelled Britain’s biggest fake insurance scam. These ghost brokers had duped around 600 drivers, many of them insuring their first car, into buying worthless policies. The two criminals had pocketed £500,000.

    AA Insurance said its fraud team blocks more than 10 suspected ghost brokers from obtaining car insurance every day.

    There are three main types of ghost broking. The first is where a fraudster creates a false policy by compiling a document for a customer based on a copy of a genuine insurance policy. This type of fraud is the most crude and easiest to spot. The customer can check whether their vehicle is actually insured through the motor insurance database

    The second is where a ghost broker takes out a genuine policy on behalf of a customer and arranges for the certificate of insurance to be sent to the firm.

    The idea is that the broker will then pass the documents to the customer. The fraudster uses the correct name and vehicle details so the customer can check on the website that their vehicle is covered. So most people believe they have insurance for the year.

    But shortly after the policy is taken out, the broker cancels it and does not tell the customer, pocketing any money refunded. The unsuspecting customer has a genuine certificate but does not actually have any cover in place.

    The third type of scam is where the ghost broker takes out a genuine policy for the customer but falsifies some of the policy information. For example, the broker may register the policy at a different address or may say the driver is older than they are to benefit from lower premiums. In these cases there is a genuine insurance policy in place but as it has been purchased fraudulently, it is not valid.

    Customers are usually asked to pay for policies in cash or by bank transfer, although some of the more elaborate scams offer payment by instalments to make the transaction seem more genuine.

    Ghost brokers often communicate with customers via free internet messaging on mobile phones, such as BlackBerry messaging and WhatsApp.

    Not only do duped customers lose their cash but they risk a criminal record. Driving a vehicle without insurance, or allowing your vehicle to be used by another driver without cover, is a serious motoring offence.

    Those caught by the police face fines of up to £5,000, up to eight penalty points on their licence and in some circumstances an instant driving ban.

    If the authorities suspect the customer was aware of or involved in the scam, they can seize their vehicle and arrest them for fraud.

    One insurer, LV=, said it had identified more than 60 fraud rings so far and a growing number of innocent drivers have been in contact to complain that they are receiving documents, payment requests and cancellation notices from LV= for policies they have not taken out.

    The Association of British Insurers warned there is a growing market for fraudsters as more people look to save money on their car insurance.

    A spokesman for the trade body said: “With consumers searching for competitively priced motor insurance, the issue is not going away.

    “We know that certain groups, such as younger drivers, are more vulnerable to this crime.” said it has taken steps to stop ghost brokers from advertising on the site. A spokesman said: “Some time ago we reorganised site categories and have removed several as part of this re-structure. The insurance-related advert section is one of those that we removed because it was a higher risk category for our users and had limited traffic.”

    The police this week made a concerted effort to increase awareness of ghost broking scams.

    An animated video has been launched on social media websites, aimed at young motorists, warning about the risk of rip-offs by fraudsters selling fake car insurance.

    Dominic Parkin, deputy head of the City of London Police’s Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department, said: “Ghost broking is a nationwide problem which is now being met by a national law enforcement response.

    “The animation is designed to grab young drivers’ attention and quickly inform them about the issue. We have asked police forces, insurers and universities to share it online with the aim to get it watched by as many motorists as possible.”

    How to check if you have a genuine insurance policy

    1. If you are concerned about the insurance you have bought, the first step is to contact the insurer named on your policy directly. Ensure the company has the correct details for you and your vehicle. Ask for the policy documents and confirmation of a payment plan, if applicable.

    2. Next, check that your vehicle is registered on the website. This is a database of valid insurance policies and you should be listed if you own a genuine policy.

    3. Did you use a reputable broker? The check is making sure that he or she was a member of the British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba) when you bought the product.

    4. In future, use your judgment when dealing with anyone who asks you to pay in cash up front. Most reputable brokers will accept credit card payments and will have clear terms and conditions.

    5. Beware of adverts guaranteeing significant undercuts to typical prices for certain types of cover, or offering fixed-price insurance. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

    How to save money on car insurance

    • You should certainly use comparison websites to shop around for the best price. But be careful different insurers will offer varying levels of cover. Use more than one comparison website and delve right into the small print to make sure you understand exclusions and exactly what your policy will insurance against. The Financial Conduct Authority, the City regulator, is concerned that some insurers design policies specifically to jump to the top of comparison tables, rather than constructing them in customers’ interests.
    • If you are a young driver, consider having a telematics box also known as a “black box” installed in your car. It uses GPS and motion sensors to detect hard acceleration, braking and speed limit infringements. This enables insurers to monitor drivers and reward careful motorists with cheaper premiums. This is especially helpful to younger drivers who are almost automatically presumed to be boy-racer types, whether or not they engage in such activities.
    • If you have more than one car in the household, look out for multi-car discounts that can cut insurance costs for additional vehicles by up to 20pc. Adding another named driver to a policy can sometimes cut premiums.

    Steps in the Application Process

    The application process to Villanova consists of the following steps:

    1. Complete the Common Application with the Member School Section for Villanova.
    2. Request the Secondary School Report Form and your official High School transcript be submitted electronically through the Common Application website.
    3. Have the results of your standardized test (SAT or ACT) reported electronically to the Office of University Admission by the College Board or ACT.     Apple MacBook Air (13-inch, June 2013) review:

    Editors’ note:As of April 29, 2014, Apple has updated the MacBook Air line with slightly faster Intel processors (1.4GHz Core i5, up from 1.3GHz) and cut the price of the entry-level configurations. The 11.6-inch MacBook Air now starts at $899 (from $999) in the US and at £749 (from £849) in the UK, and the 13.3-inch version now drops to $999 (from $1,099) in the US and to £849 (from £949) in the UK.

    It may be a case of “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”

    The new 2013 versions of both the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air look very familiar indeed, as these slim systems have hardly changed at all physically over the past few generations.

    The Air was the only Apple laptop line to get a June 2013 update at Apple’s WWDC conference. At first glance, it looks like a relatively minor set of changes, with the primary selling point being a move to Intel’s new fourth-generation Core i-series CPUs. also known by the code name Haswell. There is, however, one very important difference in the new models, and one that’s especially noteworthy if you spend a lot of time on the road and away from your power adapter.

    We’ve previously tested Haswell chips in a few laptops and been impressed by both the performance and battery life gains (to be realistic, the latter is much more important for consumers). If you add Haswell to Apple’s already-stellar battery life reputation, you get a system, in the 13-inch Air, that Apple claims will run for up to 12 hours, and in our tests (spoiler alert) ran even longer.

    Having a Haswell-generation CPU also gives you Intel’s improved HD5000 graphics, which promises improved game performance over last year’s HD4000 graphics (itself an improvement over the preceding HD3000, and so on). It’s still not anything like having a discrete GPU, as in the 15-inch Retina Pro. but with game services such as Steam and EA’s Origin now being Mac-compatible, it may make some small inroads for OS X gaming.

    Also new is 802.11ac Wi-Fi. a new standard that will eventually be found in wireless routers, as well as Apple’s new AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule hardware. If you have an 802.11n router, which is a much more likely scenario, this may not help you, but it’s a nice piece of future-proofing. Apple also says the solid-state-drive storage included in the Air laptops is now faster, although I think bumping the base $999 11-inch model up to a full 128GB of SSD storage (from the paltry 64GB previously sold at that same price) is a much more important development.

    It’s easy to say that this new version of the 13-inch MacBook Air is a modest step forward, with no physical changes to the exterior, and still no higher-res display, touch screen, or HDMI port. The battery life is a very big deal, however, and when you couple that with a $100 price cut on the base model, down to $1,099, the 13-inch MacBook Air is, despite not being the newest design on the block, still one of the most universally useful laptops you can buy.

    Design and features

    The MacBook Air keeps the same external look as the previous couple of generations, a look that still rivals the newest ultrabooks, although some new systems, such as Sony’s Vaio Pro line. are getting thinner and lighter without sacrificing much in the way of productivity.

    Both the 11-inch and 13-inch versions of the MacBook Air still have the same thickness, ranging from 0.11-inch to 0.68-inch. Spread over the larger footprint of the 13-inch chassis, the 13-inch version still feels satisfyingly thin.

    As with the previous version, the rigid aluminum construction makes the Air feel sturdy enough to just throw it in a bag and carry along with you without a protective case or sleeve, and it’s interesting to contrast the aluminum unibody construction here with the lighter carbon fiber in the aforementioned Vaio Pro. I’d still trust the Air and its unyielding lid more in a throw-in-your-luggage field test.

    The backlit keyboard and trackpad are the same as on the previous models, and the trackpad especially remains the standard by which all others are judged. Many other laptop makers have moved to larger clickpad-style touch pads, but we have yet to find a touch pad that comes close to this for multitouch gestures. The pad is again hinged at the top, allowing the entire pad to click down, and we strongly suggest going into the Preferences menu and turning on all of the tapping options for further ease of use.

    It will be interesting to see how Apple’s user interfaces develop in the face of both Windows 8, which tries (not terribly successfully) to reinvent the entire concept of working with a computer OS, and the upcoming OS X Mavericks update. For now, flicking around with three-and-four-finger gestures on the MacBook trackpad remains the most seamless way to swap between windows and applications, at least in my experience.

    Unlike on the 11-inch MacBook Air, the 13-inch screen is still not a 16:9 display. The screen area also lacks the edge-to-edge glass over a black bezel found in the MacBook Pro ; instead the screen is, as in previous years, surrounded by a thick silver bezel.

    On the positive side, the native resolution of the display is 1,440×900 pixels, which is better than the 1,366×768 you find in many 13-inch laptops, although even midpriced models are quickly switching over to 1,600×900 or even 1,920×1,080. Of course the Retina Pro models, along with a handful of laptops from Toshiba, HP, and Dell, are experimenting with even-higher-than-HD resolutions.

    While the Air screen isn’t flat matte, it’s also not terribly reflective, which is a step up from the “mirror image” effect you get on some laptop screens.

    Here at C.M. Consulting, we operate a little bit differently. First, we find out what you need, what you can afford, what the state requirements are for your area and what the EPA requirements are. Then we look through our inventory of ‘owner direct’ used plants to see if any of these would meet your needs. If so, we send you pictures and a description of the plant. If you are interested, we give you the owner’s name and number and you call them to work out whatever deal you can. We make money off the deal only if you hire our company to help you set the plant up and train your operator.
    If a used plant does not fit your needs, we go to our extensive contacts among the new plant manufacturers. We then negotiate on your behalf to get you the correct equipment at the best price possible. If you are interested in their proposal, we put you in touch with the highest ranking individual we know in that company (in several cases it will be the owner). You, again, will negotiate your best direct price, cutting out the middle men and saving around 10%. As before, we make money off the deal only if you ask the manufacturer to hire our company to help you set the plant up and train your operator.
    As you can see, we are a different kind of company, unique in the industry. We have extensive experience with many of the manufacturers, having installed new plants for many of them in some very exotic locations. I, personally, have been to 85 countries on 6 continents in the last 10 years.
    I would suggest that your first goal should be to obtain the �conditional use� permit necessary to operate an asphalt plant on your existing property. At the same time you should contact the local air quality authority and apply for a �source permit�. This rather ominous sounding item is simply a permit to pollute– albeit in a limited and regulated manner. Next, you should contact whatever cities, counties and state entities that you hope to sell to and get a copy of their asphalt plant regulations. I do not charge anyone for phone consultations, so please call if I can be of any help.

    I could have also titled this Mail merge from Outlook. Because that s exactly what this process is about. Mail merge is a powerful productivity feature of MS Word .

    Before I leap ahead, mail merge is used when we want to create several documents that are basically the same but where each document contains unique details. For example, a set of letters where the content is the same but the name, address or even the subject bits are unique for each. The best use I have found use it as a job hunting application with custom details for each employer.

    The mail merge feature uses two parts a main constant document and the inconstant data source and merges them. With Outlook being a part of the MS Office suite, one can use this feature to bulk send mail. each personalized for a different contact (it ain t spamming, although I guess mail merge is mass mailing by another name).

    So here s how to send mass emails in Outlook and make emails look personal:

      1. Open Outlook. Go to Contacts and select the people whom you want to mail by Ctrl clicking the multiple names on your contact list. To effectively select the multiple names, opt for View Arrange by Categories .
      2. Remember: Mail merge does not work with distribution lists.

    Mail merge contacts

      1. On the menu bar, go to Tools Mail Merge. The Mail Merge Contact s dialog box opens up.
      2. For the fields bulleted under Contacts. choose Only selected contacts .
      3. At the bottom, for Merge options Merge to ; select Email from the drop down. A Message subject line field appears. Fill it with the common subject. Click OK .

    The completed dialog box looks like this

    Compose the email in Word

    1. When you click OK, MS Word starts up and opens in a new document with the focus on the Mailings tab. You can use the default document or any other template you desire.
    2. The selection of recipients has already been done from within Outlook. So, we will use the Write Insert Fields panel to insert our custom fields.
    3. For the word of greeting, click on Greeting Line. Configure the greeting as you want it to appear.
    4. To insert any other contact specific like a home address or a phone number, click on Insert Merge Field for a large drop down list.
    5. Write the body of the email in the Word document.
    6. Once you are finished with the fields you want to include, preview the final look by clicking on Preview Results and then moving through your recipients by clicking on the previous and next record buttons in the Preview Results panel.
      All that remains Mail it!
    7. Click on Finish Merge Send E-mail Messages. The Merge to E-mail dialog box opens up. Click on OK .

    MS Word then does the job of automatically posting the emails in a flash. You can save the document you used for the mail merge, as it also saves the link with the data source i.e. the contacts.

    Once you get the hang of it, the whole process takes barely a few minutes from start to finish. In the same time I would have earlier composed an email for just a single person; now, I did so for a group. So here s how we managed to save on repetitive typing and save up on time.

    Mobile devices have differing operating systems, differing screen sizes, differing attributes, such as GPS. Developing a mobile app that runs on many devices provides the cross-platform capability to make more mobile apps available to users, but it creates a lot of work for developers. If developers implement an app for one set of mobile devices — say, Samsung or AT T or Motorola — they must be ready to deal with additional new devices from these vendors every few months.

    One solution to the mobile app development problem, and other problems around mobile computing. is to move the apps and their data, normally stored on the mobile device, to servers running in a mobile cloud. With this solution, when an app is made available on a mobile cloud, users can access the app and its data via browsers running on many different mobile devices. Tools needed to help make this solution work, such as MEAPs and HTML5. are discussed below.

    Mobile cloud computing can be viewed as a cloud infrastructure enhanced to provide a mobile ecosystem for mobile apps and to allow access to business apps from mobile devices. The data processing and the data storage happen outside the mobile device, and results are displayed through the mobile device screen or speakers.

    Use mobile clouds and tools to simplify mobile app development for multiple mobile devices
    The big problem for mobile app developers is to create an app that can be run on multiple mobile devices without having to build the app for each particular device. We have suggested the mobile cloud as a solution to this problem. There are tools that make this solution much easier.

    Mobile app development using MEAPs
    With mobile apps and their data running on the mobile cloud, we still have to support differing types of devices with different screen sizes from different mobile device manufacturers. One set of tools that can run on the mobile cloud that make this task easier are referred to as Mobile Enterprise Application Platforms (MEAPs).

    A MEAP is a comprehensive suite of products and services that enable development of mobile applications. MEAP platforms do some things specifically for mobile devices. such as make sure that the data sent to the mobile device from the mobile cloud fits on the mobile device screen. A MEAP’s platform converts data into a user-friendlier interface for the mobile device. It has an authentication mechanism in it that reaches all the way down to the device so that, if the device is lost or stolen, it can be wiped. One such MEAP platform is the multi-tenant Sybase MEAP. It does the conversion on the fly to make data fit the mobile device screen. The Sybase MEAP secures the mobile device and then does the conversion. One company, Marcus Millichap. takes a slightly different approach. It uses a content management system (CMS) developed by SiteCore that automatically renders to all mobile devices, removing the need to write device-specific apps for iPhone and Android phones.

    Mobile app development using HTML5
    A second approach to use in creating mobile cloud apps for multiple mobile devices is HTML5. HTML5 allows you to determine, to some extent, what the end mobile device is. It can query in real time and determine that data information is being served to a mobile device with a certain set of dimensions. On the fly, it can determine what those rendering characteristics should look like. This is a dynamic exercise, and it is all done in the cloud, where there is a lot more processing power (and it is needed).

    Hybrid mobile app development
    A third approach to reducing the amount of effort required to develop mobile apps and take advantage of some of the physical attributes of the mobile device is hybrid app development. This approach employs native device capabilities with architectural capabilities for HTML5. A hybrid application is a native, downloadable mobile cloud application that runs all or some of its user interface in an embedded mobile browser component. Instead of rewriting the application for each mobile operating system, mobile app developers write at least some of their application code in HTML, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), and JavaScript, and reuse it across devices.

    Use mobile cloud computing to give mobile device users big advantages
    In addition to easing the development of mobile apps for many mobile devices, there are other advantages to running mobile apps on a mobile cloud:

    • Mobile devices can be allowed access to powerful, back-end business apps, if sufficient security is provided.
    • More mobile apps can be made available to a broader audience.
    • Multiple security apps that check mobile device security can be run on the mobile cloud, providing much broader and more comprehensive security checking for mobile devices.
    • Running mobile apps on a mobile cloud makes many more apps available for organization users.
    • Use of the mobile cloud allows mobile devices to be included in the centralized security scheme of the cloud.

    Consider SaaS delivery for mobile apps
    SaaS is well aligned with mobile cloud computing because apps and their data are being moved off the client (mobile device, in this case) onto a (SaaS) cloud server. When a mobile app is located on a cloud, it can be offered as a service, making SaaS providers perfect for delivering mobile apps. SaaS providers just need to adapt to working with mobile devices; that will put SaaS players in a great position to deliver mobile apps.

    Excellent Customer Service

    I wanted to take a moment to quickly praise one of your employees – I believe her name is Diane. I had called in a short time ago to report a claim that had been reported to us by our insured. Unfortunately, our insured had written down the policy number incorrectly and did not have the correct named insured, meaning that Diane was entirely unable to pull up the policy. With most companies, that would have been the end of the discussion.

    Diane tried searching by every available piece of information we had, then called out to your Florence office (where the accident took place) to see if anyone there could help. Afterwards she called me back to suggest insurance companies I could try based upon the policy number, and then tried emailing others in the agency to see if any of them could assist.

    Ultimately I was able to obtain the correct policy number and name, and when I called Diane back she was able to take down all of the relevant claim information. Throughout the process she was professional, polite and positive – certainly one of the most enjoyable calls I have made in quite some time.

    In an age where agents and other representatives are always in a hurry to hang up and move on to the next task, it was wonderfully refreshing to see the lengths Diane went through to try to help us in this situation.
